Volvo car company The Volvo Car Corporation or Volvo Personvagnar is a Swedish car maker that was founded in 1927 by the Swedish bearing company AB SKF (Svenska Kullagerfabriken AB). Volvo Cars was sold by the commercial vehicles company Volvo Group in 1998 to the luxury division of the Ford Motor Company, the Premier Automotive Group (PAG). The Chinese car makers Zhejiang Geely Holding Group bought the Swedish car company in 2010. 1927 - The company was founded on the 14th of April, 1927 in Gothenburg, Sweden by the ball maker SKF, Assar Gabrielsson and Gustav Larson. The Volvo name was going to be used as a range of bearings to be sold in the United States. The first car to be made was the Volvo ÖV 4.

1998 - Volvo Group sold its passenger vehicles arm of the business to focus on commercial vehicles. Ford's luxury arm Premier Automotive Group bought Volvo Cars for $6.45 billion USD.

2010 - Ford Motor Company sold the Volvo Cars company to the Chinese company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (makers of Geely Automobile).
